3rd Prize : Berg Dorf Houses in Ramsau – Austria

The project concerns the rehabilitation of a 19th century farm and a reconstruction with four homes, respecting the relationships of the two main buildings. The external modification of the farm is limited to the upper storey, but the “invisible” modifications are considerable. The solid construction of the living accommodation is reminiscent of the former stable building. The cladding consists of old, untreated panels taken from the stables and an old cowshed nearby. The sliding panels in front of all the windows offer an unusual image of the chalets, both contemporary and natural. The central theme is not structured in the form of contrasts, but in a subtle interplay that tends to blur the frontiers between modernity and tradition.
