Eva Jiricna : Hotel Josef, Prague
This 8-storey hotel fits in perfectly with the architectural fabric of the historic centre of Prague. The repetitive rhythm of the openings is modelled on the adjacent buildings, but the perforated sunblinds are seen as a transition between the old and the new. The internal spaces, immaculate and sophisticated and the glass staircase show her interest in the play of light and changing perspectives. Born in Prague but living in London, Eva Jiricna was always able to find surprising solutions for her projects, despite functional and budgetary constraints. She is known for her designs of luxury shops, but is moving on to larger projects. Her fascination for high tech, materials and engineering make her femininity difficult to perceive at first sight. She feels that feminine creativity finds its source in different perceptions, and she is interested above all in the microcosm in architecture, which those designing major projects often ignore.
