Renovation for Statue of Liberty
New York celebrates today the inauguration of the Statue of Liberty, that occurred exactly 125 years ago. The celebration will happen with gun salutes from passing ships and with firework. After that the icon of the Metropolis, freedom and the immigration of USA will close for a year to be constructed.
On 28 October 1886 the Statue of Liberty was opened. 125 years later the island is one of the most important tourist attractions in New York. Each year, approximately 3.5 million tourists come by ferry to the island in front of the coast of Manhattan.
For most visitors little will change today. The island on which the statue is located remaines open.
The costs of the renovation are estimated at about 27.5 milion dollar (19 milion euros). Their will be new elevators en stairs towards the crown of 'Lady Liberty'.
