The 8 House, Orestad Denmark (2010) (c) Ty Stange
His offices in Copenhagen and New York employ more than 100 people; Arc en Rêve has devoted a monographic exhibition to him; he has given talks in every corner of the globe and has to his credit publications, an iPhone application, and a DVD. At 37 years of age, Bjarke Ingels (BIG) is an impressive young wonder. His architectural designs have included the 8 House in the Ørestad district in Copenhagen (2011), the Danish pavilion in Shanghai (2010), and the swimming pool in Copenhagen harbour (2003), in collaboration with Julien De Smedt. His current projects include a residential building in New York, the national library of Kazakhstan, and Tallinn city hall. His designs are characterised by a radical optimism that is clearly expressed in the title of his book: ‘Yes is More’. On the occasion of the Danish presidency of the Council of the European Union, he will give his next talk in Brussels, at the Centre for Fine Arts.
